Over the past couple of years, I’ve created a collection of collages depicting local landmarks in an iconic Art Deco style. However, bringing this collection to life has been a labour of love, requiring considerable time and effort to source the perfect magazine pages filled with bold blocks of just the right colours. Thankfully, the colour book helped streamline this process considerably with Dreamland, allowing me to dive straight into the creative flow!
To give the collage an authentic touch, I roamed the streets of Margate, collecting free local publications that beautifully reflect the community. Adding these papers to the collage doesn’t just enhance the piece; it also celebrates the area’s rich culture.
You’ll find 'Dreamland' at the entrance of the upcoming MAHL exhibition at the Pie Factory Gallery in Margate, where it will serve as a warm invitation to explore my main collection, “Painting with Scissors” further back in the gallery. This collection draws inspiration from the breathtaking North Kent coastline, and I can’t wait for you to come and see it in person!
